It’s 11:45pm and I can’t sleep. Too much to think about. Or maybe it was that McDonald’s coffee at 7:30pm. Probably both.
What’s on my mind? Well, lots of things. Most of which I can’t just spray all over the internet. Not yet anyway.
But, let me just say this: I know what matters. My relationship with my God matters. My relationship with my wife and daughter matters. My relationships with friends and family matter. My relationships with my Promise House peeps matter. Everything else is secondary (and potential distraction).
Could I be any more vague? Probably not. But, for some reason putting this out there is going to help me get to sleep.
Thanks for checking in.
Ryan

Sleeping like a turtle.

Sporting the shower cap.

Sleeping with feet hanging out of her crib.

Kylee, the 2-month-old daughter of one of our girls, just couldn’t keep it together during the service this morning at Geyer Springs. It was a little embarrassing really. I mean, to lay out on the pew and fall asleep . . . sound asleep. That’s just not the Baptist way. We Baptists fall asleep sitting up, with our Bibles open so it looks like we’re reading and/or praying.

X sleep is short for no sleep. I’m so tired, I can’t even type the word ‘no’.
Oh yeah, today is our wedding anniversary! That’s pretty cool.
But, back to the no sleep thing. I realize how spoiled we have been. Sophia started sleeping through the night at two months. Now, because of teething and being a little sick, Sophia has had two sleepless nights. How do people do this for years!?!?
Anyway, it’s all good. Life is good. Jesus has given us so much. A little sleep is nothing compared to what some people are deprived of. But, I think I might try to take a nap today.

Sophia is about to get a mouth full of chompers. She already has her front teeth, but now she has bout 5 or six of the big guns coming in. That’s a good thing in the long run. She’ll be able to eat beef jerky and chew gum. But, for now, it means no sleep. Apparently it really hurts to have small pieces of bone push through larger pieces of bone and flesh.
At about midnight last night, I busted out the ole’ six string to help Sophia relax a bit and maybe fall asleep. That didn’t really work. We put on Bob the Builder. So she watched that for 30 minutes while we got a nap.
Finally, at 1:30am, I strapped her into the Camry and we started driving. It took about an hour to get her good and asleep. For some reason, while I drove around I became very hungry. And, I was under the impression that Krispy Kreme stayed open 24 hours. I thought my suspicions were confirmed when I pulled into the parking lot and saw that all the lights inside were on. So, I drove around to the drive through. I sat there for about 5 minutes before I saw that they actually had closed at 10pm.
I settled for a grilled stuft burrito.

The butterflies didn’t let me sleep much last night.
This verse keeps coming to mind: “If you want to be my disciple, you have to forget about doing your own will. You have to be ready to die on a cross and do whatever I ask.” Mark 8:34
I’ve had my oatmeal and I’m finishing off a hot cup of African Red Bush tea. Marty will be here to pick me up soon.
I’ve pre-posted a few things to pop up while I’m in Peru. Also, I’ll try to get word to Amanda and hopefully she’ll post an update while I’m mountain climbing.

On our first day off in 3 weeks, Amanda and I almost didn’t know what to do! We just kind of stared at each other for a while. I think even Sophia knew it was weekend time because she slept until 10! Once we got our wits about us we went to the tennis courts next to War Memorial to play a bit.
I guess we made somewhat of a scene when we set Sophia’s pack n’ play up on the court. Was the line judge. And she loved it!! Good stuff. Being a dad is pretty cool.
After visiting Fresh Market (pretty cool store) we got some Mexican to go. Mmmm.
