What She Used to Look Like

| September 5th, 2007

I thought I’d bring back this little blast from the past. This is when she discovered her hand. Can you believe how much she’s grown?

Morning Time

| August 23rd, 2007

It’s pretty hard to roll out of bed most mornings. But, when you’ve got something this adorable waiting on you, it’s a lot easier. We got a pretty big kick out of this one. Sophie managed to get one arm out of her PJs sometime during the night. This is what we saw when we went to get her out of her crib.

Here’s the story . . .

| August 16th, 2007

Here at the Promise House, we’re a lot like the Brady Bunch . . . maybe a bit more dysfunctional. What I mean is we have to have a lot of what normal households have to have a little of. Remember how Alice and Mrs. Brady were always carrying in groceries?

For example, during the summer we go through at least one gallon of milk a day. That means 7-9 gallons a week. That’s a whole shopping cart!!!

Here’s a visual. Here’s about half of our shampoo stock. I was moving the storage cabinet to a different room, so I had to empty it out. I thought it was picture worthy.

Sophie’s Wagon

| August 16th, 2007

Sophia’s great-grandparents got her this wagon for Christmas. She absolutely loves it.

There’s a few more on our flickr.

Cory has arrived!

| August 14th, 2007

Cory was born at around 6pm this evening. He weighs 7 lbs. and 10oz. I’ll put some pics up on the kiddos page tomorrow. Mom and baby are doing fine.

Sophia’s New Pool

| August 11th, 2007

It’s our weekend off! And we are definitely making the most of it despite it feeling like an oven out there! Sophia’s grandma got a little pool for her. Needles to say she had a blast. There are some more pictures of her in the pool over at our flickr.

Breakfast with Sophia

| August 9th, 2007

It’s crazy how God weaves our lives together.

We attended a Baptist church in Peru during our two years there. The pastor had a 17 year old daughter who was preparing to attend university in Florida. We got to know her a little and even taught her Sunday School class a few times.

When we started at the Promise House we were told that we could have a summer missionary, but there were no applicants. So, I started thinking. One of the people I thought of was Elisabeth Castro, our pastor’s daughter in Lima. I knew it was a long shot, but I contacted Percy (our pastor) and asked him if he thought she might be interested. Turns out, she was needing something for the summer. All her previous plans had fallen through. God Rocks the House!

Here’s a pic of Elisabet playing the cajón (peruvian drum) and me and Sophia playing the djembe.

Elisabet has done an outstanding job. She came into a pretty tough situation and made the most of every opportunity. Maybe if we beg enough, she’ll come back next summer. We’ll definitely need another summer missionary or two. Hey, wait a minute . . . what are YOU doing next summer???

Dinner at the Bass Home

| August 8th, 2007

Linda Bass had all the Promise House crew over for dinner tonite. It was scrumdiddleyumptious! Linda is a huge help to us here at the Promise House. She teaches some of the girls in Sunday School and she comes on Fridays with Nitzia David to teach different stories from the Bible. And on top of that she invites us all over for dinner!!!

Sympathy Weight

| August 5th, 2007

Paul said something about becoming all things to all people. I’ve taken that to a new level.
