playing with layers

These days I use a combination of Picasa, Picnik and Nikon D40 (the one I lost) to try to snag a bit of time as it flies by.

This was taken a few days before the wedding. Jessica with her trademark freckles. Samuel with his trademark drool.

I lost my Nikon D40.

We’re in Asheville, North Carolina. My sister, Jessica, is getting married in just a few days. I’m no professional photographer, but it is a hobby of mine. I’m the photographer for the wedding. That’s the background. Here’s the story.

Monday morning Amanda and I took the kiddos to a little park near her house while they packed up the cars to head to a cabin where we would all be staying leading up to the wedding. I took my camera to the park to take some pictures. And, I left it. I just forgot it. My Nikon D40, extra lense, SD Cards, and a Flip video camera. All of it. In a bag. At the park. Was left by me.

I didn’t realize I had left $ 800 dollars worth of equipment at a public park until we were unloading at the cabin two hours later. I almost puked.

Back to the park. Gone.

We put up some signs and filed a police report. Nothing.

24 hours pass. I’m sick.

On Tuesday my parents take me to Best Buy and buy me the exact same camera. An amazing gesture on their part, but I’ve got a huge knot in my stomach knowing that, because of my stupidity, my parents have to spend so much money.

Now the good part. A good citizen of Asheville saw the signs at the park. Then, they went to a local cafe/bakery. On the counter of the baker a sign read:

FOUND: A VERY NICE DIGITAL CAMERA AT MALVERN HILLS PARK 6/8.

The good citizen of Asheville called our number that we had written on the signs. Thirty minutes after my parents had spent a small fortune replacing my camera, it was sitting in my lap. Fifteen minutes later Best Buy was restocking a Nikon D40.

It’s funny what camera’s will do with too much light. This is a shot of three bottles sunbathing in the kitchen window at my parents’ house.
