Chistmas Muzak

| December 17th, 2009

I like Christmas. I found a Christmas album by Sleeping at Last that is delightful/stirring/relaxed/melancholy/amazing/beautiful.

Since Noise Trade albums are free. You might want to give it a try. And while you’re there, you might give some other new artists a spin.

Hispanic Bible Study

| August 25th, 2009

I told you about the exam I was giving the folks in the Hispanic Home Bible Study I lead every week. They got really excited about the whole affair. When I showed up, they were all jittery, frantically going over their study guides. They wanted to do well. And they did.

It wasn’t just test night. We made it a fiesta. We ate pizza. Amanda made a German Chocolate Cake. We watched some soccer. And, we sang songs.

Here are a few photos from the shindig.

Matisyahu is a Hasidic Jewish Reggae/Hip Hop artist.

matisyahu

Apparently, everyone already knows about him. Maybe you don’t.

Why I like him:

1) He has an awesome beard.

2) He makes his son wear earphones at the concert.

3) He is committed YHWH.

4) His music is amazing.

5) Have you heard him beat box?

Music I’ve Made

| June 30th, 2009

A while back I posted to Muxtape some music I made. Since Muxtape is no longer available to the general public, I thought I’d put my homegrown tunes in my box. Here’s a playlist for your listening pleasure.

Zapatero // Zapatero means cobbler in Spanish.

Way Farin’ Stranger // This mandolin driven ballad was a collaboration between Ethan Ray Bush (mi hermano) and myself. He plucked the mandolino. I struck the quijada.

The Dips // One take. Harmonica and accoustical guitarra.

Don’t Go Home // Brad “Hound Dog” Johnson and myself threw this track down in one take. We were just a stone’s throw from the birthplace of blues, Memphis.

Range // Wait. Did I play this?

Mexican Funeral // The name is self-explanatory. Orale!

I Could Run Away // This song was originally written by Waterdeep. Adam Copeland and myself recorded this version in Mount Pleasant, TX. On a farm.

E Jig (Minor) // Ethan Ray Bush. Nuff said.

Dust Bowl C (Huancane Remix) // This song was an inter-continental collaboration between myself and Rick “El Cubano” Martinez. Rick lived in Huancane, Peru at the time of recording. I was in Little Rock, AR.

Car Port // Fergalicious.

Beat Base // Word.

Feel free to download them. Pretend you wrote them. Package them. Sell them. Get rich off of them. Just cut me in.

Away in a Manger

| December 18th, 2008

Sophia loves to sing. And now, she’s all about the Christmas tunes. The other day I could over hear her in her playroom singing. It went like this:

Away in a manger

No crib for a bed

The little Lord Jesus

Cried and cried and cried

Jon Foreman

| September 20th, 2008

I like Jon Foreman. Despite his distinctive voice, it took me several months to realize that this is the same guy who sings for Switchfoot. Probably because his solo stuff sounds altogether different.

Mr. Foreman has released four EPs (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer).

These short albums moved me. Maybe they’ll move you. You can sample them on itunes.

New Arabesque

| July 10th, 2008

Update: Muxtape changed. I moved. All my homegrown tunes can be now found in my box.

I’ve put two new tracks up on my Muxtape.

“Don’t Go Home” was written and recorded by Brad “HoundDog” Johnson and myself. I think you’ll like the Memphis touch. HoundDog played the lead. I played rhythm. You’re gonna want to crank up the volume on this one.

“I Could Run Away” was written by Waterdeep. This version was recorded in Mt. Pleasant, TX by Adam Ray Copeland Sr. and myself.  Make sure you listen all the way through to hear the very spiritual commentary following the song. You’re sure to be edified.

Both tracks were recorded using the onboard mic on my macbook and mixed using garage band.

Enjoy!

I made music.

| June 11th, 2008

Update: Muxtape changed. I moved. All my homegrown tunes can now be found in my box.

I made some music on Garage Band this past weekend. I managed to throw together four songs in a few free hours.

Here’s a pic of what was in my music tool box:

1. Martin Guitar (My beautiful wife bought this for me as an engagement gift 5 years ago.)

2. Random Shaker (I bought that bad boy for 5 S/. in the Mercado Indio in Lima, Peru.)

3. Hohner Harmonica (I have no idea where this came from. It just appeared one day.)

4. Kazoobie Kazoo (I didn’t actually use it in any recordings, but I had it handy just in case!)

5. Random Shaker Part Deux (Another Peruvian market buy.)

You can listen to them all on my muxtape. ‘Remix’ has an electric lead track added by Rick Martinez, a Cuban Guitar Virtuoso living in Huancane, Peru.

Enjoy.
