Sophia will be sharing sleeping quarters with Samuel in a few months. Here are a few shots of their beds.

Bizarre. That’s pretty much the only way to describe it. One of our girls had her first doctor’s appointment the other day. The doctor started looking for the heartbeat of the baby.
Nothing.
Understandably concerned, he began a full-blow ultra sound. Nothing. Absolutely no sign that this girl was pregnant, or had ever been pregnant. Yet, the clinic she visited a few weeks back before she arrived at the Promise House assured her that she was pregnant.
Strange.
I’m told that this is a first at the Promise House.
Sophia’s amiga, Sarita, paid us a visit yesterday. They had a ball swimming, ‘rearranging’ Sophia’s room, and eating animal crackers. Also, Sophia and Sara made up a new hymn. It’s sure to bring the church to it’s feet for years to come. It goes like this:
Yes, Jesus mocos. Yes, Jesus mocos. Yes, Jesus mocos. The Bible tells me so.
I know. I know. You’re asking yourself. What profound theological meaning does ‘mocos’ have. Well, that’s Spanish for ‘booger’.

They were supposed to be spaced out just a little bit more, but Princess did not want to come. For like 2 days. So, finally the doctors decided to do a c-section. Princess was born at 11pm Tuesday night. Well, Caden was a planned c-section for Wednesday morning. He was born at 1pm. Talk about some craziness! That puts me at like 14 grandkids.

This morning I walked through the brightly-lit halls of Children’s Hospital. Framed artwork created by children lined the walls. I took the yellow elevator to the 3rd floor. I washed my hands and forearms and put on a gown. I walked past incubator after incubator of babies that looked like they couldn’t weigh much more than a few pounds, wondering to myself what might be wrong with them.
Then, we came upon Jackson’s little plastic incubator. He was tiny. He was curled up in a little ball sleeping. Pads were attached to his back and a feeding tube that reached down into his stomach was taped to his upper lip. Jackson’s mom is Amanda’s first cousin.
“You guys must have been scared to death.” I said to Jackson’s dad. Jackson’s parents are thankful.
Jackson is pretty much a miracle. Any newborn is, but Jackson really is. You see, his mom and dad had wanted a baby for a long time. Like, years. Finally, it happened! Then, a week a go today, during a routine check-up, something went wrong. There was no movement and very little amniotic fluid. Within 30 minutes Jackson was delivered via c-section at 34 weeks of pregnancy. He weighed 3 pounds 2 ounces. That’s him hoppin’ on Angel 1 headed for Children’s Hospital where he is now doing superbly! He even nursed today!! So, you see, Jackson is a little miracle. And by little, I mean BIG.
Sophia loves. She loves her mom and dad. She loves her grandparents. She loves her friends from church (especially Sarita). And, she loves her stuffed animals. Here she is with her favorites.

Can you find: 1) Sophia, 2) Puppy, 3) Oso, 4) Baby, 5) Elmo, 6) Monkey, 7) Alce??
Adam just put lots more pictures and a video of his day old son on their blog. Go have a look. I’m definitely one proud uncle!
Akeelah made it to the outside world on Valentine’s Day! Her mom did a great job. Things went smoothly and both mom and baby are now at home.
Akeelah weighed 7 lb and 6 oz. She measured about 20 inches.

Here’s a shot of my amazingly hot wife holding Fabian. Fabian and his mom just came by the Promise House on their way to a new chapter in their lives. They seem to be doing well. But, back to my wife. Wow! Look at her! She’s gorgeous! And that’s just the outside. If you think that’s beautiful, you should see the inside. Dang! I’m one lucky guy.

Kylee, the 2-month-old daughter of one of our girls, just couldn’t keep it together during the service this morning at Geyer Springs. It was a little embarrassing really. I mean, to lay out on the pew and fall asleep . . . sound asleep. That’s just not the Baptist way. We Baptists fall asleep sitting up, with our Bibles open so it looks like we’re reading and/or praying.

If there is one thing I’ve seen here at the Promise House, it’s pain. Not so much my own, but the girls’. Week after week these kids get jilted by their families and/or their baby’s father. Imagine the kind of pain you might feel you might feel if the only person you have to hold on to no longer cares about you. Maybe you don’t have to imagine it.
Every little thing is gonna be alright. That’s part of a song by Delirious?. I believe it’s true. It might take a while, but everything is going to be ok. And, more than that, pain and sadness are often necessary for growth to occur, for peace and joy to take root (Jn. 16:7). Jesus walks with us and strengthens us through times of brokenness so that we not only survive them, but come out on the other side with a deeper connectedness to him and a clear perspective of what life is all about.
Was she ever really this little?

Here she is just 2 hours old.

The zoo is awesome. We went today with Big Ron and Abuela. I know everyone always says that the Little Rock zoo isn’t all that great. And, I guess compared to other zoos, it’s not. But, I definitely enjoyed it! And Sophia made friends with a Spider Monkey and some Lorikeets. So, it’s A-OK in my book. Here are the highlites:

We’re going to the zoo!

Giraffe! Jirafa!

Dude, that thing is huge!

Here are couple more pictures of Nadalie. She’s just a few minutes old in these two photos.

Nadalie and her mom will be with us here at the Promise house for two more days. They will be placed in a foster home closer to family on Thursday.
There is a picture of Nadalie up on the kiddos page.
Nadalie arrived at about 9:15pm Sunday nite. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 5 oz. and is 19 in. long.
I’m a grandpa again!
One of the girls went into labor this morning!
It looks like I’ll be a grandpa again before the day is over. Jennifer said something like 30 family members have shown up at the hospital!!!
I’ll put some pictures up of little Nadalie as soon as I see her.
Kevin Shearer is a missionary for the IMB in Lima, Peru. I had the chance to get to know him during our two years there. Here’s an excerpt from his blog . . .
Then I wandered down a narrow alley till I found Judith. Judith is a beautiful 18-year-old (approximately) who just gave birth to an even more beautiful baby girl. “Come see my baby,” she said, excitedly. I stooped and went into the small straw mat hut with dirt floors. Theirs is better than some; they have three rooms. It was warm enough inside (thankfully). There, in the middle of the only bed they own, lay that precious baby. Judith looked up with proud, but pleading eyes. “Please pray for Chris; she has a lung infection and a blood infection.” I did. Chris cried all the way through, sneezing from time to time. I told Judith I would be back. Judith has her own health needs. I know some doctors who plan to help meet them . . .
You can read the whole post here. Kevin plants churches in the ever-expanding city of Lima.
Here he is!
