Dr. Akers took this shot. I was talking to this elderly couple about their experience in making sacrifices to Pachamama in order to ensure a good harvest.

Premonición

| April 30th, 2009

I had banana bread french toast on the flight into Atlanta at 6am this morning. If you every have the option, don’t do it. Those two foods are good. Apart. But melded into one meal at 30,000 ft. is almost enough to cause some major turbulence if you know what I mean.

Last night I had the chance to hang out with Dana Palomino. Her joy and hope in our God fill up a room. She was one of our best friends when we lived in Peru. Jesus Christ completely turned her ashes and brokenness into beauty and wholeness.

I’ll post some pics from the trip as soon as I can get these disposables to a developer.

Also, if you have any study tips. Hit me. I’ve three tests in the next two days.

If you play, you gotta pay.

The toilets flush backwards here.

The team will fly out of Lima tonight at midnight arriving back in Memphis mid-morning.

Last night I went to an English Fellowship class. Arnold let me play a few songs (just like old times!) and share with them about what has been going on in my life. It was mostly new folks, but there were a few familiar faces.

I read this a few minutes ago:

All of us must die eventually. Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God does not just sweep life away; instead, he devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him.

That´s from 2 Samuel 14. Read the whole story for the context. It´s good stuff.

I´m Hours From Civilzation

I´m sitting at a computer in the municipal building in Santiago de Chocorvos. We don´t have running water most of the day, but we do have internet. Go figure.

It´s impossible to put words to the range of emotions and feelings that have berated me since I stepped off the plane in Lima. I didn´t know they were there.

We´ll be travelling back to Lima tomorrow (Monday) stopping in Ica to meet with the director of a Bible Insititute there.

No, no bbq guinea pig yet. But, there is still time.

Oh yeah. I also managed to completely empty my stomach on the way up the mountain by vomitando about 10 times out of the truck window. So much for being a seasoned Andean missionary.

Last night I had the honor of telling the story of Cain and Abel to a household.

I’ll be in el Perú for 6 days with a group from Kirby Woods. Boosh!

Mosquito

TRIBESMAN: This man is sick because someone worked sorcery against him.

WESTERN DOCTOR: This man is sick from malaria because he was bitten by an infected mosquito!

TRIBESMAN: Yes, he was bitten by a mosquito — but who sent the mosquito?

Under Pressure

| April 16th, 2009

I had a two week spring break last month. I took a special term class. That means all day in class, all evening working on projects for the class. It’s a class in a week. I’m not sure why in the world you would want to watch all 3 minutes and 17 seconds of me sitting in one of these learning marathons. But, maybe you happen to be really bored and really like David Bowie.
