For months before Sophie was born a lot of our conversations went like this:
Me: My wife is pregnant, she is due in August.
Him: Really! Que bonito! Congratulations.
Me: Yeah, we’re really excited.
Him: I imagine! But, you better get some sleep now.
Me: ????? (puzzled look)
It’s not that I didn’t know what he was talking about, it just seemed like a strange thing to bring up at that point. I realized that the baby would be getting up during the night. But, what’s the big deal?? . . .
It’s a big deal. I’M TIRED! The problem is that you don’t get uninterrupted sleep. I’m probably getting six to seven hours a night. . . . but they are in 2 hour sections . . . with 30 minute awake breaks in between. That makes for NOT GOOD SLEEP.
Anyway, we’re getting it figured out. So far, being a dad has been a blast. And even the late night/early morning awake breaks have been enjoyable, because I love to be around my daughter.
Last night was good. Grandma took baby duty for a lot of the night. I had dreams!
Thank you so much for all the emails and comments. We love them! They make our experience that much better! Sorry for not being able to respond to all of you yet. We will. As you can imagine, we’ve been a little distracted for the past week or so.
But, we’ll keep putting pictures up and try to add a video now and then.
The summer has come to an end for the REAPSouth summer missionaries. They’ve all made it to Lima and we have spent the past couple of days debriefing.
We’ll all eat Thanksgiving Dinner at Kathy’s tonite.
Check out www.reapsouth.org/summermissions to see some testimonies, photos, etc.
We finally made it home!! We’ve put a few more photos on flickr. They’ll be more tonite and hopefully a video or two.
We’re excited!
Everything is going fine. Amanda and Sophia are trying to figure out the breastfeeding thing and I’m enjoying getting to know my new daughter. She is amazing. We’ve been waiting for what seems like forever . . . and now she’s here! God is so good. He has been so merciful to us. We give him the credit, glory, praise, honor, etc., etc. We live because he lives.
