U Turn

Yesterday, I was helping Dylan and Sherry find a new sleeping bag in Lima. At one redlight I made a U turn, which was illegal at that particular intersection. There was a policeman waiting and he waved me over.

He took my liscense and registration. He said this was going to be a big infraction. He asked me if I’d like to pay it there or at the comisaria (police station). I told him I’d rather pay at the comisaria.

I realized when he asked me ‘where’ I wanted to pay it that this guy probably wasn’t going to write me a ticket . . . and that he was going to see if he could get anything for himself out of me.

He hopped in my truck and started pointing where to go. He led us all over the place . . .up one street and then back down the same street . . . through neighborhoods looking for the phantom police station.

Finally, he said that maybe we wouldn’t have to pay the fine if we just paid him part of it. Sherry, who speaks Spanish, was in the back seat with him and told him that we are followers of Jesus and were not going to give a bribe. That we would pay the fine because we deserved it, but we weren’t going to bribe him.

We invited him to lunch with us but declined. “Let me out of here.” he said, at some random corner. So I did. He shook our hands and told us to be careful not to do it again.

Well, I’m glad you were a great witness to him… hope that you get to see him again!

Ryan and Amanda, Just thought I would check in and catch you up on the adventures in Arkansas. We made the John Mellencamp concert and that was exhausting but fun. I don’t think he was as good as when we saw him in Iowa. The trip to Colorado was also fun but exhausting. Six is definitly toomany to travel 2400 miles in a Rodeo. Especially for a fat old fart with claustrophobia. But southwest Colorado is one of the most beautiful places i ahve ever seen. We stayed in a small town called Ouray (named for a Ute indan chief), a town of about 1000 people. It was surrounded by beautiful mountains aqnd had an olympic size swimming pool tha was filled with natural hot spring water. There werre wonderful places to eat and traditional architecture. I could have spent a week there enjoying the sites, weather and the pool. The concert was great and again the weather awesome. We stayed a day in Taos and they have a new children’s center that has the best skate park that Ethan has ever seen. Un- fortunatly we were not able to bring his skateboard becaus of space. So guess where we are going for Thanksgiving. We left Taos Sunday night at 600 and got home Monday morning at 700. I slept until 230 pm. But the whirlwind trips are over and we geet to spend a weekend at home relaxing and doing nothing YESSS. Hope everything is going great with you lawbreakers. Write when you can love you dad.
