Sleep.

| July 29th, 2006

For months before Sophie was born a lot of our conversations went like this:

Me: My wife is pregnant, she is due in August.
Him: Really! Que bonito! Congratulations.
Me: Yeah, we’re really excited.
Him: I imagine! But, you better get some sleep now.
Me: ????? (puzzled look)

It’s not that I didn’t know what he was talking about, it just seemed like a strange thing to bring up at that point. I realized that the baby would be getting up during the night. But, what’s the big deal?? . . .

It’s a big deal. I’M TIRED! The problem is that you don’t get uninterrupted sleep. I’m probably getting six to seven hours a night. . . . but they are in 2 hour sections . . . with 30 minute awake breaks in between. That makes for NOT GOOD SLEEP.

Anyway, we’re getting it figured out. So far, being a dad has been a blast. And even the late night/early morning awake breaks have been enjoyable, because I love to be around my daughter.

Last night was good. Grandma took baby duty for a lot of the night. I had dreams!

you have to get in a routine…at least thats what we’ve been told. Easier said than done though. Emma had a good routine for 3 nights last weekend sleeping alomst 5 hours at a time, but the last two nights no such luck.. It does get easier though I think your body just gets use to sleep deprivation..

    love ya’ll aimee
